Year 5 – Hopeful Helpers

Welcome to the Prophetic Publishers

Prophetic Revelation Through Journaling The Words of God — Destiny Image

We are the Hopeful Helpers, our class teacher is Miss Elliott  and our teaching assistant is Mrs Cartwright.

Miss Elliott

I enjoy teaching because it has been my passion since I was very young. I’ve always wanted to be a teacher, and now, every day, I get to do what I love—helping children grow, learn, and develop confidence in themselves. I love being creative in everything I teach, whether it’s maths, reading, writing, or art. Finding new and exciting ways to engage my students makes every lesson feel meaningful.

I love St Joseph and St Theresa because of the warm, welcoming atmosphere. The children greet me with a smile, try their hardest, and genuinely want to achieve. Their enthusiasm and determination inspire me to give my best every day.

I believe that primary school is the most important stage in a child’s education. These early years lay the foundation for their future, shaping their attitudes toward learning and helping them develop essential skills for life. That’s why I give everything a good go—to ensure that every child gets the best possible start. Teaching isn’t just a job for me; it’s my calling, and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such a wonderful school community.

Here are the books I recommend that the children should be reading.

We will also continue with our Music sessions led by our specialist teachers and Spanish lessons led by Mrs O’Hara on a Friday.

You can find the knowledge organisers for our topics under the ‘Curriculum – other’ tab which will provide a little more information on these topics.  On Google Classrooms we publish our topic homework which contains a variety of fun activities for the children to choose from to complete at home.

Homework
Please log into your Google Classrooms account to find homework and class updates.  Thank you.

Every Monday children are given our new spelling homework activities.  These can be handed in the following Monday. Our spellings are assessed through dictation and a test in class.  These are printed and added onto Google Classrooms so children can choose whether to complete electronically or on paper.

CLIC/Learn Its are sent out on a Friday. These can be handed in the following Friday

Topic homework will be given out at the beginning of the topic and can be completed over the duration of the topic.

It’s really important to read at home, so please remember to log your reading on the BoomReader (Go Read) App daily.  Children should be reading for at least 20 minutes each day with an adult or independently.

CGP maths and SPaG homework will also be set weekly.

SATs Companion and English homework will be set each week – this is not compulsory and children can complete this if and when they are able to.

Please go to your Google Classroom to find your weekly homework.

English –

In Year 5, English is planned using Pathways to Write. Each half term, there is a new genre, book and style of writing that we will be using. For each piece of writing, the children will be completing their ‘Polished Piece’ as well as some smaller pieces throughout the half term. Non-negotiables are created at the start with the children for things they think they need to include in each piece of writing.  Regular reading at home greatly improves children’s writing as it enhances their imaginations and gives them a sense of writing for a reader’s eye.

RHE

In Upper Key Stage 2 we complete the following modules in our RHE lessons:

Module 1: Created and Loved by God

UKS2 Module One: Created and Loved by God explores the individual. Rooted in the teaching that we are made in the image and likeness of God, it helps children to develop an understanding of the importance of valuing themselves as the basis for personal relationships.

Module 2: Created to Love Others

UKS2 Module Two: Created to Love Others explores the individual’s relationship with others. Building on the understanding that we have been created out of love and for love, this module explores how we take this calling into our family, friendships and relationships, and teaches strategies for developing healthy relationships and keeping safe.

Module 3: Created to Live in Community

UKS2 Module Three: Created to Live in Community explores the individual’s relationship with the wider world. Here we explore how human beings are relational by nature and are called to love others in the wider community through service, through dialogue and through working for the Common Good.
