Welcome to the Kindness Keepers class page. Mrs Schneider is our teacher and Mrs Matthews and Mrs Roden are our teaching assistants.
Our class name Kindness Keeper reflects many aspects within our Catholic Social Teaching and Catholic Pupil Profile. In Catholic Social Teaching, we are called to recognise the dignity of every person and to act with love, care, and respect for others – especially those most in need. By being “keepers” of kindness, the children are encouraged to protect, share, and spread kindness in their words and actions.
The Catholic Pupil Profile highlights virtues such as being Compassionate and Loving, Generous and Grateful, Attentive and Discerning. Our class name links directly to these values, reminding pupils to look out for one another, celebrate each other’s gifts, and help build a caring classroom community.
In short, Kindness Keeper is more than just a name – it is a daily reminder for the children to live out their faith by treating others with respect, empathy, and joy – something that we will instil in all of our pupils each and every day.
Homework- A spelling sheet will be sent out each Monday and children will be tested on this rule the following Monday with a dictation on a Thursday where children will apply the spellings and spelling rules that they have focused on.
Children should also be reading at home for 15 minutes a day or as much as possible. Please record this in the virtual diaries on Boom Reader.
Maths basic skills – The children’s CLIC sheet will be given out every Monday to practise at home. Please discuss this work with your child and complete by the following Friday.

Our topics in Faith this year will be
- The Old Testament: Our first unit is designed to give children some insight into the stories and the characters of the Old Testament. It will also introduce them to important images of God found in the scriptures.
- Sharing in the life of Jesus: Children extend their knowledge and understanding of the life of Mary and Jesus and the
call of the disciples. Children will also be introduced to the prayer of silence as an opportunity to spend time with God. - Advent: This unit is designed to develop children’s knowledge of the time, symbols and characters of the liturgical Season of Advent. It will focus on Advent being a season of preparation for Christmas through the story of John the Baptist and parish activities.
- Christmas: This unit is designed to help the children reflect upon the journeys associated with the Christmas story and what these journeys eventually tell us about Jesus’ birth and the way people respond to his birth.
- Parables and Miracles: This unit is designed to develop the children’s understanding of Jesus’ parables and miracles. Through these they will develop a greater understanding of who Jesus is and what his ministry was.
- Special Celebrations: This unit is designed to develop children’s understanding of the Liturgical year as a celebration of the life of Christ. The children will also learn about Baptism and Marriage as special sacramental celebrations.
- Lent: This unit is designed to develop children’s knowledge and understanding of the Season of Lent and the importance of the theme of forgiveness during this time.
- Holy Week: This unit is designed to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of the events of Holy Week.
- Easter: This unit is designed to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of the stories of Easter from the New Testament and of the symbols the Church uses to celebrate the Season.
- Pentecost: This unit is designed to develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of the story of Pentecost and of the activity and presence of the Holy Spirit.
- Our Church: This unit is designed to develop children’s understanding of what it means to belong to God’s Family. In the unit we focus on the role of the parish and people with special responsibilities.
- The Mass: This unit is designed to develop children’s understanding of the structure of the Mass and what is taking place. The focus will be on seeing Christ present when we gather, in the Word and in the Eucharist.

Here are the units we will be covering this year.
At St Joseph and St Theresa’s we use the Mathematics Mastery Programme. The programme is carefully sequenced to enhance pupils’ understanding of maths.
‘Learn Its’ are addition facts and times tables facts. These are facts that children need to learn off by heart! When asked ‘What is 6+4 ?’, they should give the answer as quickly (as quickly as telling you their name). As soon as they know 3 x 5 = 15 they also know 5 x 3 = 15 (this is known as a ‘Switcher’).
Here are Year 2’s Learn Its for each term:
Module One: Created and Loved by God explores the individual. Rooted in the teaching that we are created by God out of love and for love, it helps children to develop an understanding of the importance of valuing themselves as the basis for personal relationships.
Module Two: Created to Love Others explores the individual’s relationship with others. Building on the understanding that we have been created out of love and for love, this module explores how we take this calling into our family, friendships and relationships, and teaches strategies for developing healthy relationships and keeping safe.
Module Three: Created to Live in Community explores the individual’s relationship with the wider world. Here we explore how human beings are relational by nature and are called to love others in the wider community through service, through dialogue and through working for the Common Good.
